I meant to comment on this video! Great explanations!
Hi Dr. Klim. Really enjoyed your video! I am an associate doctor in practice for over 20 years, but new to Cerec and Primescan. Are there other videos that you can share that might help me to learn how to work with the design interface better? Yours is the only video I have found that actually discusses occlusion concepts coherently. Thank you!
Hi Tina. I have a full membership training website at www.cadstar.org. There are channels to work through the software, milling, finishing, and applications. Thanks for asking. All the best.
Good afternoon, James! I wanted to thank you for your videos. I am a therapist doctor from Estonia, and I am currently starting to work with digital dentistry. I have a question for you: Which scanner do you use for PrograMill PM7? Thank you for your response! Sergey
That is some serious artistry James!!! 🔥
Thanks Steve, all the best!
Which material is this? Zirconia?

Hi James! I’m a lab tech and I was wondering what glycerin do you use to make it nice and shiny? I’m looking around and can’t find the gel one that you use. Thank you!
Yes, vegetable glycerin can be found on Amazon. See the following link. ..about the person with his shade inaccuracy to me it looks like Contamination ..check heating elements and do the Purge of your sinter furnace ..to be absolutely sure that it is contamination during Purge process put inside WHITE Zirconia (it must be white so you can see if it is contaminated or not )..and your final temperature must be higher then your working temperature by atleast 50C ..eg if you sinter at 1500C purge is done at 1550c my Tip ..there is a thing called "Refractive Index" in Natural teeth is 6.0 in Feldspathic Porcelain is 5.1 in Zirconia is 2.1 ..the closser the RI is to the 6(the natural tooth the less visible is) ..Iron Fe is with 0 ,.....now that being said ..mistake comes form using Feldspatic Shade guides its in 90% VITA Classical ..Chroma\Hue\Value and is thick 4mm .. and now what is Zirconia ?!?! PPL please make your life easier and dont mix apples with oranges ..just create your own Shade Guide with Zirconia crowns eg A1 A2 etc and give it to your doctor ..its not hard and you always getting predictable result .. VITA ClAssic Shade guide or 3D one is like PFM for example " metal with Opaquer A1 ..above opaquer is used NECK 1(which is 73% reflective)then Dentin A1(which is 33% reflective)and is covered with ENAML EN1 which is actually mixture of Enamel EN1 and Dentine A1 (3/1) and its total thicknes is 4mm Doctor James Klim said" in cases where he needs A1 he uses disk A3| ..well yes thats easyer because Chroma for A1 is A3 ..but Chroma for A2 is B3 and for A3 is B4 and for A3.5 is 4M3 ..but thats just chroma and works perfectly in layered ceramics it does not work with Zirconia ..bcz to get a correct tooth shade you need Chroma HUE and Value ....you cant control it with zirconia ..so again just make your own Shade guides from exact material you use (id does not need to be done all in one go ..if you today have to mill A1 and B2 use that opportunity to mill A1 and B2 for your custom lab specific shade guide
I appreciate your thorough response. The nature of my video was for those who have an in-office lab and in-office systems to process the materials using three primary furnaces with specific Zirconia brands. These are the offices that follow this channel. I am aware of the perspectives you bring up and have presented the refractory index blending factor with ceramics lectures, including at the AACD. Anyway, all the best. Thanks for your input.
dou you make texture on the glaze? How do you polish the glaze if you wear it down?
I only place glaze on surfaces that show for aesthetic purposes. No glaze on occlusal surfaces subgingival. The labial surfaces on zirconia are textured before sintering. It is possible to put texture on a zirconia surface using the Structure material with Miyo after sintering. I prefer pretexting and using the brush on ceramic from the MiYO system.
Excellent video (like all of yours). I just went to the market and bought a couple of glass containers to cure my mouthguards, It's going to save me a lot of work. Muchas gracias (many thanx). Greetings from Chihuahua, Mexico
Thanks for your comment. All the best to you and this journey we are on with printing.
How do you like using ivocolor on zirconia? That is what we currently have, is it worth it to get MiYo850?
Ivocolor works well on zironia as well as ceramics. If you go to the Ivoclar website, you will find recommended firing temperatures for Ivolar; program your furnace accordingly, and you will do great. MiYO 850 is better for e.max. There is the regular MiYO made for zirconia. I use both Ivocolor and MiYO regular on zirconia.
Why do you like zirconia for patients with caries issues?
Polished zirconia collects fewer biofilms than a natural tooth. In addition, it is easier to finish margins subgingivally and has a proficient cementation protocol with RGI. All the best.
@@KlimDDS Agreed! Definitely like the cariostatic effect of RMGI's

Hi. Do we need a firing paste for the gloss firing procedure? I know that there's no paste for sintering (obviously)...
No. Do you mean when adding a glaze?
@@KlimDDS Hi. Thank you for your prompt answer. Yes, I mean for the glaze. Or can I just put them on the CEREC Single Unit Glaze Support witout any firing paste?
No firing paste is required to glaze and color zirconia. However, sometimes, it is advantageous to place the zirconia on a firing pin with paste, which is easier to manage.

5:30 “…that’s what we did to heal the heart. So often when I’m doing a smile it’s about the heart” I absolutely love that you mentioned this! We often strive for “textbook perfection” but oftentimes that is far from perfection in our patients’ eyes. If having rounded central incisors will make my patient feel good about herself, then I will do my darn best to give her the best rounded incisors she’s ever seen!
Right on! All the best.
Thank you Dr. Klim. I have always felt that I didn’t know what I was doing when matching shades. So upset the app is not available in the apple store. Already contacted my ivoclar rep. 🤷🏻♂️
Jealous of that lab area...thanks for the vid.
app is currently unavailabe .. why ?
Check with your Ivoclar rep
This is so good! Thank you! Please keep on sharing your knowledge.
Amazing summary of tips. It would make life simpler! Just one query, I am bonding my emax with heated composite. So, how do I select the composite shade considering using HT in all anterior and posterior cases?
The warm composite method is excellent. Same principle. How many composite shades do you have and what brand? Principle with HT, choose brighter options and tone down with a warmer cement color. This is the best of the best for HT e.max.
Does the App cover other ceramics, or just those of Ivoclar?
The app is produced by Ivoclar. However, the recommendation can be translated to other materials using the principles of ceramic value and shade selection. All the best.
What is the difference between regular zirconia crown and cerec zirconia crown?
Nothing. CEREC is a way of fabricating restorations. There are various brands and strengths zirconia. At the time of this video, all zirconia crowns are machined using CAD/CAM technology.
@@KlimDDS thank you
Amazing level of understanding and detailing..wow i am thrilled, thank you doc. .. please elaborate shade selection while doing a single veneer as well ,thats the most challenging

Hi! thank you for the video. You are using a CS6, do you agree on a setup with Programmat S2 & P310 for a dental practise or it is too much? We are a dental practise that just bought DryMill and ZirCad Prime discs.
Good question, if you will mill from pucks, then the SC2 will be a better fit, the CS6 was made for the block mill for Prime and ZirCAD MT multi. I use both. If you are using CEREC, then the CS6 is the way to go! All the best!
Thank you for your reply. We have the Ivoclar DryMill so we can only mill discs and not blocks. So the S2 is a bettet fit? I am confused. Not cost wise, but result wise.
With the disc, the S2 is indicated, there is a subtle chemistry difference between the Ivoclar disc and block zirconia, the S2 is for disc zirconia.

Nice James ! But I do believe and I'm sure you do too that Prime Print is the only way to go .
Lmao
Thanks for your comment. The PrimePrint definitely has a nice workflow. Coming from the Asiga printer, built my expectations for print quality and having an open system. SprintRay has R&D, quality, and speed efficiency that is leading the industry. PrimePrint has done an excellent job for workflow automation, however, the print quality is lacking compared to other printers on the market and did not reach my expectations in this area. All the best!
Thanks for the video. You are grateful for many things, and I am grateful for being able to learn from your experience. I wish you a soon recovery of your hip. Best regards from Chile. César

I understand that emax could be done in the green stage, and that for teaching purposes is good to have this vídeos, but working out of purple tooth is asking for a mismatch, I've been a dental technician for 20 years and I've done custom shades and many many many crowns, and I can tell you that matching a shade with a pre shaded crown is difficult even more working from a purple color crown.
You are correct, matching in the blue state can be difficult, at first, having done my own ceramics for over 25 years I get it. Each ceramic brand and translucency have unique behaviors. I have taught ceramist and dentist for years, and the information in this video is a small "snap shot" of what is possible with practice and experience. All the best.
The video is called removing zirconia crowns..... But the video is about creating undercuts...getting retention and cemention of crowns... So I'm wondering if you had tips and thoughts about actually removing zirconia crowns. That said, 100% I find section and crown split and DO NOT BOND bc a few zirconia crowns I've had from other providers have had to be sectioned into like SIX pieces to get all of it off.... But also, with a good prep, good wall height, good ferrule if a core etc I feel like an RMGI is MORE THAN adequate to keep a crown on so I don't really see the need to bond??? And I'm wondering for you think sometimes even with an RMGI do you get some bonding if there is a composite core (I personally think you do- but unintentionally!!! Just polymer chemistry doing its thing).
This video was for those who are bonding in zirconia which some companies in the industry are recommending. I agree, you describe an ideal prep circumstances. For me RMGI is adequate, and I did not address the issue of bonding to a core. Anyway, thanks for commenting. All the best.
I respect you Dr, you are a real teacher
Nice Video But Video SEO Score Very LOW
I loved the outdoor scenes, Dr. Klim! Great presentation and video!
Simple physics, ++ Surface area = ++ retention like what it was with the large amalgam restorations
With short clinical crowns less than 4mm do you feel the undercuts in the intaglio are sufficient to retain these zirconia crowns?
I have, but will place retentive boxes and grooves in addition to undercuts in both the restoration and prep, after the scan for the prep.
Does the laser work thru zirconia?
Yes, it takes longer than a ceramic, but will loosen the cement bond.
Looks great! Such a nice way to calm down besides all the hustle in the dental office! Really inspiring. Thank you for taking us on your journey besides all the dental knowledge 💪🏼
Thank you for these videos! Can you tell me what the "A stain" corresponds to color-wise in the Ivoclar stains?
I’m glad you’re using Exocad! I’ve been enjoying your primescan videos and I also love Exocad so I’m excited to see when you create! Digital dentistry rocks!
Thanks Charlie, Yes I am enjoying the journey. Thanks for reaching out! All the best!
I’m going to buy this for my office. If you use Miyo prior to crystallizing, do we just use our regular emax cycle or does that need to be changed? If we need to refire because the color is off or we choose to stain after firing, do we use that same exam cycle or do we use a different cycle?
Speed cycle or the superspeed crystallization cyclein in the CS6 with MiYO 850 works just fine. Any further firing for additional characteristics, use the e. max correction cycles. You will love the MiYo! All the best!
@@KlimDDSthank you for the response! We have a programat CS. Would the regular emax preset in there work with the stain?
@@joshhindman5737 Yes, use the faster cycle with 850, will work just fine.
@@KlimDDSthank you! Your videos are great!
I'm three years late to your video, hope you see my question. More or less, how many bridges like this does your sintered diamond needle burr can stand before replacing?
Green zirconium is soft and chalk-like and will last a long time. In other words, I do a lot of zirconia, and the needle bur is still working after four years. On the other hand, diamond needle burs last only a short time on crystalized ceramics. All the best.
